Our purpose statement
Animal Health Australia (AHA) does not play a lead role in national animal welfare policy development or implementation.
Our expertise is in emergency animal disease (EAD) preparedness and response, surveillance program management and the promotion of good livestock industry biosecurity practices to support animal welfare.
AHA recognises that animal welfare is foundational for sustainable livestock production and is a consideration in animal health, biosecurity, and EAD preparedness projects that we manage on behalf of our members.
AHA will work cooperatively with governments, industry, and welfare organisations to add value to national animal welfare initiatives and projects where they align with our strategic goals and priorities.
From time-to-time AHA’s members may seek support from AHA to contribute to projects to improve animal welfare outcomes and standards within their sectors. AHA will consider supporting projects and initiatives which provide direct and tangible improved welfare outcomes at the enterprise level or may contribute to EAD preparedness. However, fundamental or pure research projects solely focused on animal welfare are out of scope for AHA.
