On 19 June, Animal Health Australia (AHA) and the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI) welcomed over 35 industry and government representatives to a targeted training session in Brisbane. The workshop focused on the critical roles and responsibilities of Livestock Liaison Industry (LLI) personnel during an Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) response.
Participants heard from:
- Dr Allison Crook, Queensland’s Chief Veterinary Officer, opened the session by emphasizing the importance of preparedness in mitigating both state and national EAD threats.
- Melinda Hashimoto, CEO of Egg Farmers of Australia, shared practical tips and reflections from her recent involvement in Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) responses.
- David McNab and Kirsten Phillips from Qld DPI provided an in-depth look at how Incident Controller and Public Information roles collaborate with LLIs during an EAD event.
AHA extends sincere thanks to the broader Qld DPI team for their support in planning and delivering the workshop.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with 96% of participants agreeing or strongly agreeing that the training was delivered well and met their needs.
“The exercise sessions with prominent staff on our table was very beneficial.”
Attendees walked away with increased levels of understanding, confidence, and appreciation for the significance of industry and government relationships in building preparedness against EADs.
